An action packed Sunday

Dear readers, I couldn’t resist coming back to write a quick post about an action-packed, fun-filled day.

This afternoon at Aegis Lodge, I hosted Wordle with the seniors for the first time. It was a lot of fun, but as the game went on, I realized many of them were struggling to follow along. The free app’s ads were distracting, and the rules weren’t as intuitive as I’d assumed. Some had trouble remembering what gray, green, and yellow meant. Others weren’t sure how to use the remaining letters or come up with a strategy to find the right ones. One person even had trouble telling whether we were going top-down or bottom-up.

So I came home and built a simpler version designed just for them. AI makes coding so much easier these days, and the game is already ready! I can’t wait to try it with them next week: mindmingo.netlify.app

Just like little kids, the seniors couldn’t hide their excitement when they heard we were skipping our usual workout! In its place, we had a special show put on by a group of incredibly talented high schoolers. They played piano, sang beautifully, and performed on the guzheng, a traditional Chinese string instrument I got to see played in person for the very first time. I couldn’t take my eyes off the player’s fingers as they danced across the strings, plucking, sliding, and pressing with such speed and grace that every note seemed to flow effortlessly. Watching those delicate, precise movements bring out such a rich, haunting sound truly moved me. The seniors were completely captivated, smiling, clapping along, and soaking in every moment. I sat there in awe, not just of their skill, but of the time and dedication these young musicians had poured into their craft, and their generosity in sharing it with the seniors on a Sunday afternoon. It was truly special to watch.

We wrapped up just in time to head home for the Seahawks game. My mom suggested we grab Pagliacci, which happened to be right on our way, and watch together. And what a game it was, a huge redemption performance by Darnold! I’m calling it Streak Breaker Day for the 49ers and Chiefs.

What a day. I couldn’t have asked for a better one.
